25 years ago Tomorrow

I had no idea it had been so long since I Blogged. I apologize to my followers.

I am delayed at the Salt Lake airport waiting to catch my flight to Houston to attend the annual Herriage Xmas Party. Our WMI staff will be their and many of Kips friends and neighbors. It is always a great time that I very much look forward to each year.

As I sat here thinking about what to write about, as soon as I realized the date I knew exactly what I wanted to cover. If you have read my early blogs or attended out most recent m2 in Vegas you have heard about this before.

Tomorrow, December the 19th will mark the 25th anniversary of the Wilberg Mine Disaster. 27 Coalminers perished that horrible day in coalmine history.

Going in on a mine rescue team to identify and recover bodies was an experience that I will obviously never forget. I remember coming home from the rescue and recovery efforts on Dec. the 23rd. There sat my family eating a Sunday dinner together. My Mother and Father were there along with my 2 daughters and my wife.

They immediately asked me about my experience. All I could think of was the families that would no longer have their Fathers, Uncles, Grandfathers and even 1 Mother to spend Xmas with ever again. It could not have been a worst time of year for an accident of this magnitude to happen in such a close knit community.

I want to reach out to the family that lost loved ones and let you know that like you, I will never forget the losses of our Coalmine brothers and one Sister that happened that day back in 1984.

What I really want to impress on each of you this Holiday season, is just how lucky we are to have the friends and family we do in our lives. And if we are allowed the privilege to spend a few days with them this time of year, we are blessed and very fortunate. No matter what, in good times or bad, our families and friends are always there for us. Be sure to open up and share your love with them each chance you get.  Be sure they know just how much they truly mean to you. Remember that the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

Happy Holidays to you, your friends and your family.

Till Next time,

Karl Bessey
